About Us

Originally named after its founder, Dennis J. Valvano Sr., the Valvano Insurance Agency (VIA) has faithfully served the Metropolitan area residents since 1937. Dennis built the business with an emphasis on providing quality customer service and when he retired, he left behind a legacy of hard work, stability and a commitment to the community that we serve.

Following in his father’s footsteps, James Valvano took over the reins of the Agency in 1985. Utilizing the experience and knowledge gained while working with his father; coupled with the skills and experience acquired while working at the American Fore Loyalty Group (which, later became the Continental Insurance Companies) James successfully increased the Agency’s book of business.

In 1989, after a successful career at NIA, LTD, James’ son-in-law Michael Varvar joined the Agency. In 2001, Michael purchased the Agency and under his guidance and leadership, the Agency grew by more than 400% while specializing in Wholesale, Manufacturing and Distribution accounts and focusing on customers that “make things”. The Agency experienced this growth while maintaining Dennis Valvano’s commitment to providing quality customer service.

Michael continues the family tradition with the same dedication and values that VIA has been known for in the community. His vision for the future and his commitment to his clients guarantees the continued success of VIA for many years to come.
